Final Approval
A couple of days ago we received final approval to be able to live in our building. In a previous post, I mentioned that we had our building permit. I didn’t want to bore anyone with the details, but it was conditional – based on the Zoning Department review.
Here in St. Louis, building permits are always denied when you’re building something that doesn’t follow all the rules. Like building a residence inside a commercial building, or creating a dwelling without creating parking spaces on your own property. Which is exactly what we are doing.
Once you receive your official denial letter, then you have to file an appeal, then a hearing is set,
and finally you have to stand before the Board of Adjustments in City Hall and state your case.
This process gives everyone (like neighbors) the opportunity to give their opinion in support or opposition to your case.
Fortunately, we had letters of support from our Alderman, the local neighborhood watch group, and the local business association. (And thankfully no one showed up to oppose us!) It helps your case immensely to ask for support from groups like these before you go to City Hall!
So we passed with flying colors – we even overheard their discussions to say that we “would be an asset to the community”! Go BAB!

There aren’t any other exciting photos of the procedures, so instead I took this photo of the ceiling inside the hearing room in our City Hall.
Wow Patrick Kelly was right! You are amazing people! Wow! Hope to meet you some day. Keep blogging so we can continue to learn of your on-going creative endeavors and amazing accomplishments!
