Color, Cabinets and Carpet

February 14, 2011

We haven’t just been emptying buckets, we actually have been making some visible progress.

Nancy and Mary layout the carpet tiles

The salvaged carpet tiles are going in on the loft- bedroom and closets. Friends Mary and Nancy are carefully selecting the colors and patterns that look the best.

Quilt-like carpet tile

The colors really work well with the newly painted walls.

Collage of colors and patterns

We decided to go bold on the colors. Originally, that was the idea- to keep the original walls differentiated from the new construction. After seeing the crisp white new drywall, we second-guessed the design idea. After consideration, though, we decided to dive into bold jewel tones.

Wall colors

Unfortunately, the walls at the lower right hand side look like the same color as the walls above it. They look quite different on the little paper swatches. The lower wall will get repainted, but not until we hit some key deadlines.

We also got the way-cool-salvaged kitchen cabinets installed. With them cleaned up and repositioned, you can see the revealed history of their place in interior design color theory. The cabinets were originally pink, painted turquoise, then harvest gold, now white. I guess we will need to select a new color very carefully, to ensure the trendy tradition continues!

Not yet painted, ready for counter tops

The counters were measured this morning, the template should be ready in the next day or so, the new counters in a couple of weeks. We are using the sink from the demo-house temporarily, so we can get our occupancy- a very key goal for us right now! Everything that comes next takes us steps closer to moving in.

Enough about carpet, cabinets and finishes. Show me the boiler!

The old boiler is quite the scary thing- very titanic-esque. I guess if we can post the sewer line video, the boiler is up for grabs! Stay tuned…

Sue, the kitchen in our first apartment was pink–not good. Think more neutral. I like the carpet quilt. Mom

This was just sent around at my office:
It says the color of the year is pink- so maybe we should paint the cabinets their original color…
