Beaches on my mind

We used to spend the great majority of our vacation time at a beach. We talk about traveling in Europe or other architectural venues, but when it comes down to planning a trip, going to the beach ends up at the top of the list.

Our Happy Place

It is so much more conducive to introvert-recharge-down-time, than sightseeing in a foreign land. One of my favorite beach activities, besides staring at the waves, is watercolor painting. I’ve spent a lot of time painting the view while on beach trips, but I also paint an imagined ocean view when I’m back home. I find it relaxing to recreate a beach scene even when it is a distant memory.

A sampling of beach paintings

What does this have to do with the B.A.B.? Well, my subconscious beach-brain has crept into reality. Over the past month or so, we’ve been developing and revising the paint color scheme.

Some of our finishes

The first round of colors needed tweaking, but we are happy with the final results.

The greens on the right, upper and lower, were too alike

Second round with color is better

I had my samples out at my desk at the office the other day. I also have one of my watercolor ocean pictures pinned up at my desk. It soothes me. I finally put the two together.

The painting in my cube meets the paint chips for our apartment

I guess I shouldn’t be surprised to see a great deal of similarities. I’ve been painting the same colors with a roller and latex paint that I’ve enjoyed mixing on my watercolor tray.

Wow, the BAB is really coming along nicely – the kitchen looks especially great! I love going shopping for marble and granite – it is all so beautiful to look at and hard to choose. Unfortunately, it is usually the budget that makes the choice!

If you need sea glass, there is at least one beach in NJ that has some (Bay Head). Probably the best place in the world to collect it is Guantanamo Bay Cuba. My Navy cousin and his family are stationed there for 3 years and there is a beach that is called Sea Glass Beach and it is actually covered with sea glass! It looks amazing. If you need some, let me know, I can have them scoop some up for you!

That would be amazing to see! What a great story to have Cuban beach glass on our back splash. We collected some in San Francisco a nubmer of years ago, but only enough to cover a couple feet. We’ll take whatever we can get!
