One of the reasons we entered this adventure was to support our hobbies. Tom has a passion for working with wood. He also truly enjoys sharing his knowledge about the material. We’ve been helping a new organization, Building Futures, that introduces kids to design and construction. The kids actually get to work with real tools! Even table saws! Tom gave a lecture last weekend on Wood Basics. I wasn’t able to attend, but fortunately, they recorded the presentation.

I can guess that Tom learned wood basics from his dad. Maybe I’m being overly nostalgic but I can picture them spending many hours at their workbench, hunched over some wood project and talking about wood fibers and grain. Fast forward to today and the talk includes a computer, but the hands on learning is still primary. Throw in an ax and kids getting to break stuff- I’m sure these lessons were memorable!
