Re-roofing

After getting new roofing, we were very excited to finally take down some tarps. Unfortunately, that celebration and tarp removal were premature. Our roofing material is a water based product. There was a frost before it was fully cured and the result was pinholes in the membrane. There wasn’t much we could do until the weather warmed up again. We were able to get the roofers back out in the Spring to do some spot repairs but that didn’t work- the patches bubbled up and failed. They came back again to do larger patches, which solved the problem. Finally, in September, we were sure the leaks were gone. They came back one final time to apply the protective top coat. At the same time, we added a new roof drain.

The result is a remarkably bright white roof which is visible on Google Earth. Also visible is all the debris from the roof project that is in piles on the remaining old roof. If you zoom all the way in, you can see a dark spot on the white- that’s the new drain.

All bright shiny and new. We'll need sunglasses when we come up here now.

It is still dry and the tarps in that area of the second floor are cleared away. We set up a drawing table and chair in a north window. I’m looking forward to making use of it!

Lily is enjoying all the extra space to run around. Her new favorite game is tag. We alternate chasing her and being chased.

I take it the roof handled all the rain and storms OK? Anyway, congrats on getting that done. The roof looks great!
