Home Improvement Projects

November 2, 2015

We jokingly say- At the BAB, we offer you this as a service: If you are stressed out about your home improvement projects, think about us and you’ll feel better.

Last night, we acted like normal people and went to a movie- Martian. As we were talking after seeing this really good movie, we both realized that we connected with what the main character was saying, especially after last week.

At some point, everything’s gonna go south on you and you’re going to say, this is it. This is how I end. Now you can either accept that, or you can get to work. That’s all it is. You just begin. You do the math. You solve one problem and you solve the next one, and then the next. And if you solve enough problems, you get to come home.

It also put into perspective, our home improvement projects. We get really dirty, really beat up and really tired, sometimes. We occasionally feel overwhelmed. But, we don’t have this in our world:

If the oxygenator breaks down, I’ll suffocate. If the water reclaimer breaks down, I’ll die of thirst. If the hab breaches, I’ll just kind of implode. If none of those things happen, I’ll eventually run out of food and starve to death. So, yeah. I’m fucked.

Of course, our adventures at the BAB aren’t fictional. These issues may exist in someone’s world at some point in the future, but in the meantime, our home improvement projects pale in comparison to THAT kind of adventure. When things, inevitably, ‘go south’ we’ll remember this:

In the face of overwhelming odds, I’m left with only one option, I’m gonna have to science the shit out of this.

That, and get the best insurance we can.

My car is on the way to the repair shop.

It’s on my list. The movie had some really funny bits but the book is always better than the movie.

I don’t know, the BAB may be a bigger project than Mars?
